IMAGINE

Object: Mobile objects
Material: Wood, acrylic lamination, rubber foam, fabric, feathers, speakers, CD–player, varnish, aroma oil
Size: Benches: 100 x 60 x 50 cm
balls: diameter approx. 60 cm
Date: June 2003

Three benches, similar in style to the architecture and design of the exhibition, serve two purposes: to provide seating for the visitor and to act as a repository for the balls. At an open spot the balls can be pulled over the head to allow for an exploration of its interior. Inside a Portuguese poem is whispered into one’s ear, the bright light intrudes through the translucent ball. Inside another one, darkness, black feathers and a heavy rose aroma surrounds the viewer. A third one limits one’s field of sight and smell.
In what way does the coenaesthesia change, when the surroundings of the head – home to all the senses – changes into a new shape? Does one enter a new reality, incited as in cyberspace by sensual information, stimulation and simulation?
